After my Bar Cart Redo, I had a lot of friends asking to create something “cool” for them, so I did! I found this table on craigslist for $10 that needed some color and TLC (Tender loving Care). The previous owner used it as a flower table/stand but I decided to transform into a table bar.
What you will need:
Minwax wood Finish Penetrating Stain Espresso color # 273
brush or sponge
Sander and fine grit sandpaper
rubber gloves and a mask
Step 1: Prepare the Wood
After you take all the pieces apart, it is time to prepare the wood by sanding it with a 220 grid paper. I chose 220 because this piece didn’t have a lot of scratches on it, just minor stains. Sand until the wood is smooth and then use a clean cloth to remove dust.
Apply the Minwax PRE-Stain Wood conditioner and let it dry for 15 min, then with a clean cloth wipe any excess off. Let it dry for 1 -4 hours until is dry to touch.
Step 2: Stain Wood
For this step, I used a nylon brush, but I would recommend using a sponge, it just makes the job so much easier. Make sure to apply the grain with the grain not against it. Let it dry for 15 min and with a clean cloth wipe off any excess. Let it dry for 4-6 hours and then apply a second coat of stain if needed. Then let it dry for 24 hours.
Step 3: Finish the wood
After 24 hours, or when the wood is dry, apply the wood sealer, I used Clear wood Finish Spray, but there are many options available. It takes 30 minutes – 1 hour to dry. After it is completely dry, put the table back together!
